Commercial RTU and Package Unit Replacement

Air conditioning accounts for about 19% of electricity use in U.S. homes, and in Oklahoma, that percentage is even higher during the five to six months of heavy cooling season. When your system is struggling or has failed, every hour it runs inefficiently or sits broken costs you money and comfort.

Cool Down Heating and Air repairs all brands and types of residential and light-commercial AC systems, including central air, heat pumps, and ductless mini-splits. Every repair is performed by our own technicians (never subcontractors), and every job comes with a written warranty. We offer free second opinions on any repair recommendation.

Cool Down handles every aspect of commercial equipment replacement. We work with building owners, property managers, and general contractors to select the right equipment, coordinate the logistics (including crane sets for rooftop access), and minimize business disruption during installation.

Signs Your RTU or Package Unit Needs Replacement

Equipment Is 15 to 20+ Years Old

Commercial RTUs in Oklahoma’s climate typically last 15 to 20 years. Past that window, parts become scarce, efficiency degrades, and unexpected failures become more likely.

Repair Costs Are Increasing Annually

Multiple repairs in a single year, especially compressor or heat exchanger work, often signal that replacement is more cost-effective than continued patching.

Energy Bills Have Risen Despite No Usage Change

Aging commercial equipment loses efficiency gradually. New equipment meeting current standards can significantly reduce operating costs.

System Can't Maintain Temperature During Peak Demand

If the unit can’t keep up on the hottest or coldest days, it may be undersized for the current building load or degraded beyond effective operation.

R-22 Refrigerant Dependency

Commercial systems still running R-22 face the same phase-out economics as residential. Replacement eliminates the dependency.

Replacement Services We Provide

Complete removal of the old unit and installation of a new rooftop unit, including curb-adapter modifications if the new unit has a different footprint. Crane coordination is included when needed for rooftop access.

Ground-level or pad-mounted package units replaced with properly sized new equipment. Includes ductwork connection, electrical, gas (if applicable), and thermostat integration.

When the new unit doesn’t match the old rooftop curb dimensions, we fabricate and install custom curb adapters to ensure a proper, weather-tight fit.

We evaluate your building’s heating and cooling load, present equipment options from multiple manufacturers, and prepare a detailed written bid for approval.

Benefits of Replacing Commercial HVAC Equipment

Reduced Operating Costs

New commercial equipment runs more efficiently, lowering monthly energy expenses. For businesses running HVAC year-round, the savings are substantial.

Reliable Performance

New equipment with a manufacturer’s warranty eliminates the risk of unexpected failures during business hours. Pair with a maintenance contract for ongoing protection.

Modern Controls and Efficiency

New RTUs offer programmable controls, variable-speed options, and better humidity management compared to aging equipment.

Code Compliance

New installations meet current mechanical codes and efficiency standards. Licensed work (Lic #099177) ensures your system passes inspection and satisfies insurance requirements.

What the Replacement Process Looks Like

We start with a site visit to evaluate the existing equipment, building load, and access logistics. We prepare a written bid with equipment options, pricing, and a projected timeline. Once approved, we order equipment, schedule the crane (if needed), and coordinate the installation to minimize business disruption. On installation day, we remove the old unit, set the new one, connect all ductwork, electrical, and controls, and run a full commissioning test before handing the system over. Financing is available for commercial equipment replacement.

This is the second time Rick has come out and fixed my unit from someone else messing it up! He’s very honest reliable and does a good job my AC is up and running the same day and only needed a relay switch to fix it! I was told I needed a whole new unit! I’m so grateful for this honest licensed company that helped me and fixed someone else’s sanity! I highly recommend cool down heating and air and Rick!

Rick came out to look at my air unit and explained everything to me on how the process works, what to expect, how much air units run and also told me about air conditioner evaporator. After talking to him I know a lot more about the air units, very pleased with the way he explained things.

I can always count on Brian to help me out. I have used his services for a few years now. I would highly recommend him.
